Y6 Reading Spine by Pie Corbett
Here are some brilliant books that are recommended for children in Y6. There's a whole range of books here - hopefully something for everyone! Why not buy one, read one and pass it on to a friend? If you really love it, we can add a gold star to it on our classroom display!
Even though many children can read independently, it is still really important for them to read regularly. We want them to be able to read fluently in order to prepare them for later life. They should be reading for around 20-30 minutes every day. It is good for children to experience reading in different ways:
- Enjoying a book on their own (every day);
- Reading to an adult (several times a week);
- Talking about what is being read (several times a week);
- Listening to an adult read to them (regularly).
The documents below give some suggestions for age appropriate books and questions that you can use to discuss the books being read.
It is good for children to read a variety of books and texts: story books, information books, newspapers and magazines, recipe books, instructions, leaflets...
